When towing a trailer, Ford recommends using the Severe Duty oil. The oil can be 15w40 regular or 5w40 full synthetic. The catch is also if you run bio fuel, Ford recomends using 5w40 full synthetic. See pages 448-451 in your owner's manual. Most here seem to use the 5w40 since most all diesel fuel is Bio Diesel now.

Basically it ain't going to hurt - can only help, i personally - based on my approx 12>14k miles year - do an oil change every 6 mths. Kwik fit do a complete oil and filter change using proper Zetec oil (refusing to allow me to pay more for the Mobil one stuff :o ) for the price of £34.99.
